Lafayette Park
August’s Playground of the Month is Lafayette Park!
Located at 10 Lafayette Blvd. West, Lafayette Park is a colourful neighbourhood playground filled with opportunities to move, imagine, create, and explore. From musical features and colourful stars to accessible communication board and plenty for imaginative play, even the smallest details can inspire a new way to play.
With mature trees nearby for shade, soft turf underfoot, and a picnic table for snack breaks, it’s an easy spot to add a little play into your day.
Lafayette Park is full of little features that invite kids to explore, create, and find their own way to play.
So Many Ways to Play at Lafayette Park
Make Some Noise: Drums, spinning wheels, and other noisemaking features give children the chance to experiment with sound and rhythm. Our playground testers even discovered that the slide and stairs could become instruments of their own!
Move Your Way: Climb, swing, jump, balance, or run from star to star. The lower monkey bars are great for little ones practicing their swinging skills, while the soft turf creates a comfortable surface for active play.
Let Imagination Lead: A playground doesn’t have to be used exactly as intended. During their visit, one tester and her mom transformed the counter underneath the slide into their very own ice cream shop.
Follow the Stars: Colourful numbered stars scattered across the turf became an activity all on their own. Our testers counted them, ran between them, and invented a game where someone called out a colour and everyone raced to find the matching star.
Communicate Through Play: One of Lafayette Park’s standout features is its accessible communication board. Using pictures and symbols, the board can help children communicate wants, needs, and ideas while they play. One of our two-year-old testers even used the “eat” symbol to let her dad know it was snack time!

Make It Part of your day
You do not need to plan an entire afternoon to enjoy Lafayette Park. With around 30 minutes of playtime and a picnic table nearby, it’s an easy stop while you’re out and about. West Village Mall is just a short walk away, and families may even spot deer wandering through the nearby field.
Whether you’re making music, practising a new skill, creating an imaginary world, or simply following the stars, there’s no single way to play Lafayette Park.
