Legacy Discovery Playground

May’s Playground of the Month is Legacy Discovery Playground!

Legacy Regional Park is the first major regional park on the north side. The park spans 73 acres and was designed for people to play, relax and connect with their community.

We asked a local family to check out the playground and let us know their thoughts!

The Floor is Lava – Playground Edition

"The Floor is Lava" is a simple, imaginative game where players pretend that the ground is made of hot lava and they must avoid touching it! The goal is to move from one part of the playground to another without stepping on the ground.

How to Adapt it for a Playground:

  1. Set the Rule: The ground (sand, mulch, grass, or rubber surface) is lava—you can only touch the playground equipment!

  2. Start on a Structure: Players begin on a part of the playground, like a platform or climbing feature.

  3. Move Carefully: Try to get from one piece of equipment to another by climbing, swinging, or balancing—without stepping on the ground.

  4. Use Your Imagination: Pretend the lava is bubbling or rising to add more excitement.

  5. Make it a Challenge: Add timed goals, or designate safe zones where players can “rest.”

This game is perfect for playgrounds with lots of climbing structures, balance beams, and connected features—like Legacy Discovery Playground!
